I recently updated my template for my blog (thank you Joern Kretzschmar) and started using WordPress’ bookmarklet feature to post quick news from sites I like to visit. I didn’t want these bookmarklet posts to show up on my homepage and here is a really simple way to accomplish it. If you’re not technical, don’t worry, it’s really simple. continue reading…

All the major studios have abandoned HD DVD, today Walmart released a statement that they won’t carry HD DVD movies after June of this year and now this report on Toshiba.  Looks like the format war is over.

DailyTech – Report: Toshiba to Abandon HD DVD

Thanks to Adam Walker Cleaveland for this cool WordPress plugin. I use this on the right rail of my blog and it works great. It’s very simple to install. Simply add the plugin, enabled it and copy a line of code into your template.

Adam has all the detailed instructions and the plug-in is available for download on his site.

Ovechkin for MVP

This guy impresses me more every time I see him play.  Ovechkin put up 5 points tonight, including 4 goals (one of them the OT winner) all the while getting his nose broken and getting stitches in his lip from a puck in the face.

He’s scored 30% of the teams 145 goals this year, has almost 20% of the teams total shots this year and the next in line for team goals is a DEFENCEMAN with 14!  He  has 10 more goals than all the other forwards on Washington combined. continue reading…

I read an interesting article on e-Week about how to quit your job with bridges intact.  While I agree with the article entirely from an employee standpoint, what about how that bridge handles your resignation?  There are right ways and wrong ways to quit your job and there right ways and wrong ways the company should handle you quitting. continue reading…

A full moon?

How fitting is it that Buffalo snaps their 10 game losing streak with 10 goals against the Thrashers last night?  It was definitely a goal scorers night last night with 4 hat tricks scored across the league and it was just about 5 but Todd Bertuzzi could only manage 2 in the Ducks win against Minnesota.

Derek Roy and Drew Stafford netted hat tricks for Buffalo while Eric Staal turned the trick for Carolina as they trounced my beloved Oilers 7 – 2 including a 5-goal 3rd period.  Daymond Langkow rounded out the night of hat tricks with his effort against the Kings.

I don’t think I can remember a night when 4 hat tricks were scored, but considering there were only 7 games in the NHL last night, there must have been a full moon out last night.

I just finished reading Bret Hart’s new book, Hitman: My Real Life in the Cartoon World of Wrestling and I would say this is a must-have for any wrestling fan. What I appreciated the most from Bret’s book was the fact it wasn’t published by the WWE which, in my opinion, gives it more credibility as other books from other Superstars likely had to hold back on some truths in order to keep their jobs. continue reading…

Way to go Recci!

It was great to see Mark Recci score the winning shoot-out goal against his former club, the Pittsburg Penguins, last night.   Since joining Atlanta, Recci has 16 points in 17 games and has proven he still has what it takes to compete in the NHL.

I was quite disgusted with Michel Therrien with how he benched Recci and said that the 1300+ point getter didn’t have what it takes to play in the NHL anymore.  A 19 year veteran, Recci is clearly proving his worth to the Thrashers.  A guy like Recci definitely deserved better than to be benched and waived by the Pens.  I would have liked to see the Oilers pick him up, they could use the veteran leadership.

image_916836ca-0c1e-25db-80b765db90dabf64.jpgCongratulations to the World Junior team on a 4th consecutive gold medal! While our 20-game undefeated streak came to an end against a very good Swedish team, Canada still dominiated in international hockey also winning the Spengler Cup and under 17 championship. What is truly amazing are the records Canada has amassed over the years. 20 consecutive wins, 400 minutes of 5-on-5 shutout hockey (which equates to almost 7 full games) and 160 shutout minutes courtesy of Justin Pogge in 2006 when Canada didn’t allow 1 goal in against Finland and Russia in the semi-final and gold medal game respectively.

Canada has appeared in the gold medal game for the last 6 consecutive years and it was Canada’s 10 consecutive medal in the World Junior tournament. In the last 16 years, our World Junior team has won 9 gold medals, 3 silver and 3 bronze which is a tremendous feat.

The 2009 tournament in Ottawa is already sold out and will be the perfect venue to tie our own record with our 5th consecutive gold medal. 10 players are eligible for next year’s tournament

The talent Canada has produced bodes well for 2010 in Vancouver when the team will likely consist of the likes of Crosby, Spezza, Luongo, Turris, Heatley, Lecavalier and Pronger.

What’s next for Canada? The Women’s junior team absolutely hammered Switzerland 15 – 0 in a preliminary game on Saturday, which of course was overshadowed by the men’s gold medal game. Mark January 20th on the calendar, that’s the date of the gold medal game for the women’s under 18 tournament and the next of many more medals to add to the list!

Last week my wife went out to get some groceries and left a 10-pound bag of potatoes in my trunk.    I was wondering what that rattling around was, I usually dispose of the body right away…..er…..nevermind.

Fast-forward to this week and we take the now frozen bag out of the trunk and cook up some yummy mashed potatoes.   Unfortunately my wife put my PDA beside the frozen potatoe bag on the counter and this morning when I got up, it was swimming in a pool of brown water!  Good thing it wasn’t plugged in.

Anywho, after I removed the micro-SD card and drained the water out of all the other crevices, everything still works great albeit it does have a nice raunchy potatoe smell to it.   Oh well, it works so no harm done…so far!

First my digital camera, now my PDA.  I’m hoping she’ll destroy our 6 year old DVD/Home theatre system next!
