Mark September 1 on your calendar if you like to rock!  I recently picked up Satch’s new record and a collaboration with Sammy would be some pretty kick-ass straight-up rock IMO.

How about Microsoft stop introducing new document formats that aren’t compatible with THEIR OWN software before worrying about being compatible with Open Source formats?  That’s great that Office users will be able to open native OpenOffice docs (ODF), but pre-Office 2007 users still won’t be able to open Office 2007 docs unless they’re saved down a version.  Makes sense.

Ha, how amusing…it’s exactly what I did.  Zero problems on XP, lots of problems/annoyances on Vista.  Kubuntu works great on a 10-year PC in my basement and I rolled back my work PC to XP.  I’ve even had family members (junior users) who have complained about Vista.   It’s simple to setup and easy to turn on a new PC and get it work, but once they start using it the annoying security intrusions and incompatibilities with their existing software is quite enough to help spread the bad about Vista.  The fact my Kubuntu distro takes 20 minutes to install and WORK flawlessly on LESSER hardware is enough proof for me.

One thing I loved about the Blackberry was the ability to have notification profiles.   The default capability in WM 6.0 is not great, you pretty much have on, off or vibrate but can’t customize ringers or sound levels for data/voice notificiations.  Here’s a wicked program that does just that and it is freaking brilliant.  If you have a WM 6.0 device, you NEED this!

Well, I missed my round 2 predictions, but here goes for round 3.

Dallas/Detroit:  Dallas in 6.  I’m taking a pretty big risk with this one, but Dallas has been through adversity by outing the champs and my pick to win the cup, San Jose.  Dallas plays hard and Turco has just been un-believable.    I’m amazed how simple Detroit plays their game through these playoffs so far.  Put a guy in front and shoot from the point.  They’ve looked amazing against Colorado and Nashville, but Dallas has grit and only an injury to Zubov which could be the difference maker.  Either way, Dallas is playing great and despite being down 4 – 1 right now, they’re going to pound the Wings into submission.

Pittsburg/Philly:  Pittsburg in 7.  Doesn’t matter who wins, the cup final is being played in the West.  Neither of these teams has faced stiff competition in either of the 2 first rounds.  I don’t think either of them “won” as much as their opponents “lost”.  Washington gave Philly a good run with a mediocre team but that’s about it.   They’ve both played sloppy hockey and the teams in the West play much more disciplined and neither of these teams can match up.  This is going to be a great series since these guys hate each other.

For the record, I was going to pick the Rangers over the Pens and San Jose over Dallas so I’m sitting just over 50% for the post-season.  Not bad!

After a long and painful decision process, I have decided to sell my car.  With my wife not going back to work and me car-pooling, it doesn’t make much sense to keep both vehicles so guess who gets the shaft?  That’s all well and good, all the more money to save towards my Mustang GT convertible! Even though I am ridiculed for driving a girl/old man car, this car is awesome.  Goes like stink, quiet, solid, wicked stereo and is surprisingly good on gas (avgs about 9.5L mixed driving).  Check out the details here and contact me if you’re interested.

What an exhilarating feeling to finally be able to head out for my first ride of the season.   20.993KM, 1H 9M 10S and 18.2 AVG KM/Hr.  Not bad for the first trip on a mix of trails and pavement.  My typical route brings me to a fork where after the 7K mark, it’s either east or west with east becoming a short 10K sprint and west turning into a guaranteed 20K ride.  I’ve never been one to back away from a challenge so when my brain said “not a good idea to go west on your first ride with no real warmup after a winter of pizza and McRibs” the rest of my body said “If you go east, don’t forget to pick up a poodle and a pink blouse on your way back

My body one the argument.

At a paltry 10K, my head was pounding, knee was aching and I remembered why I love biking.  There is no greater feeling than feeling like you can’t go anymore only to set another incremental goal to sprint towards.  I figured if I couldn’t hit 20K on my first ride, there’s no way I’ll hit 100K by July.  Yeah, that’s right.  100K.  Getting over that first hiccup and shock of the first ride just makes you feel invincible and there will be no better feeling than stumbling in the house on that hot July day, sun-burned, dripping with sweat so I can tell my wife I did it just because she looks at me like I’m out of my mind when I tell her I’m going to hit the 100K mark.

Bring It.

There’s absolutely nothing cooler than being able to say I built former Megadeth guitar player Glen Drover’s website.  I’ve known Glen for about 10 years now and have been serving as Eidolon’s webmaster through all 7 studio releases.  Glen’s working on a new solo project and there’s a clip on the intro on the homepage which will completely tear your head off.

A lot of late nights went into the creation of this site and I’m very happy with how it turned out.  Check it out!

I was working on another blog tonight and for some reason the theme I was using had a problem with widgets.  Soon as I changed a setting in options, I’d get a PHP error which was pretty annoying.  I couldn’t get into the admin at all and figured out a simple way to update the theme manually to at least be able to get into the admin.

The theme being used is stored in the wp_options table in the database.   Simply run these MySQL scripts and your site will be set to using the default theme (it’s based on the theme folder name):

update wp_options set option_value = ‘default’ where option_name = ‘template’
update wp_options set option_value = ‘default’ where option_name =’stylesheet’

Hopefully that’ll save you some time ripping your hair out if you stumble on a theme that trashes your admin.

I found this really cool free flash photo gallery maker tonight.  Literally took me about 10 minutes to add the photos and set it up.   Now if I only had a Wordpress flash plugin to post the output right here.   Definitely worth a look for any webmaster.
