This guy impresses me more every time I see him play.  Ovechkin put up 5 points tonight, including 4 goals (one of them the OT winner) all the while getting his nose broken and getting stitches in his lip from a puck in the face.

He’s scored 30% of the teams 145 goals this year, has almost 20% of the teams total shots this year and the next in line for team goals is a DEFENCEMAN with 14!  He  has 10 more goals than all the other forwards on Washington combined.

The Caps are 3 points out of the playoffs and no doubt without Ovechkin they’d be last in the league.   Now, of course the MVP is going to go to a player on a team that makes the playoffs, but outside Vinny LeCavalier or possibly Mats Sundin, I can’t pick another player who has been more valuable to their team.  Without Sundin the Leafs would be no where, ditto for Vinny in Tampa even though they’re 2nd last in the league.

If anyone has seen Ovechkin play lately, he is all over the ice.  Back-checks, hits, scores and always seems to be where the puck is.  With Sid out and unless Ovechkin gets hurt, he’s a lock in my books to take home the Hart.
